African Dialects through Adinkra (ADtA)

Adinkra is a system of symbols and communication based on the spirituality and culture of the Akan people of Ghana. The Akan are a large West African ethnic group living in southern Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). Adinkra symbols first appeared in the early 18OOs. Africa is home to some 1.5OO different languages. Twi (pronounced ch-wee) is the language of the Akan people and the basis for the names of the symbols. These symbols appear on wooden prestige objects, jewelry, brass weights, and most prominently, as two-dimensional stamped designs ornamenting cloth.

Throughout the reading of the form, the user notices on the left page the country of each chapter, its initials, and the symbol of the Adinkra alphabet written and spoken. In this way, a symbolic acknowledgment of "unity" is being achieved between the diverse countries of the African continent.
Shapes through the Adinkra alphabet appear in new worlds, separate many times. In this way, both the registration of the Adinkra design and the study of the countries, familiarization with Africa as a continent.

In addition, the shapes are formed almost automatically giving a new dimension to the letter itself as a substance. It is equally interesting to identify and compare it with the modern world written language. Thus arises the need for ADtA.

Finally, the choice of all the elements on the layout is conscious. The monospaced set is chosen to denote writing in a modern setting. Also, the small typographical characters are paralleled with small flow symbols, Adinkra. The mono-linear geometrical sans serif is used as a display for the titles, the change of capitals, and the accompaniment of the shapes-symbols of the African dialect.
